In an endeavour to promote tourism in the state, Gujarat government is working on a policy specific to Bollywood. Film producers, under the policy, will be offered incentives when they film in the tourism destinations of Gujarat, said Chief Minister Narendra Modi at Gujarat Travel Mart on Monday.
There are several farmers in Gujarat, who are active in agri-tourism. “We too are working on similar lines,” said Modi. “Simultaneously, we want to come up with kids’ tourism. We want to give the children exposure to various tourism places in Gujarat. We will take them to the ports, to the car plants and other places to make them realise the reality of these spaces,” he added.
Citing statistics, Modi went on to say that 22 million tourists visited Gujarat last year. “We have seen 16% increase in tourist footfall. This figure is double to that of the national growth in tourist inflow,” said Modi.
The state government, meanwhile, has also started invested heavily in the tourism sector. “In 2005-06, we spent about Rs30 crore on tourism. This year, we have increased the figure to Rs500 crore,” said the chief minister. “We will spend money in promotion of tourism in Gujarat.”
